Fine Art America alternative: your site, 0% commission
Fine Art America (and Pixels.com) are good at traffic. They are expensive at the sale, and the customer is theirs. ImpactFolios is the other model: collectors buy on your domain. We print and ship. Stripe pays you. We take 0% of the sale.
You do not have to leave FAA. A lot of artists keep the marketplace listing and run an owned site as the home base — the place that ranks their name, holds the email list, and keeps the profit.
What you are actually comparing
FAA sells two things that get mixed together:
- The marketplace — your work sits inside fineartamerica.com / pixels.com. Their catalog, their checkout, their customer.
- ArtistWebsites — a site at
yourname.artistwebsites.com(or similar). It still lives on their brand. Uploads still feed the marketplace. It is not the same as a domain you own.
ImpactFolios is a website you own, with print fulfillment sitting on top of it. Checkout is on your domain. Search engines index your name, not a vendor listing.
| ImpactFolios | Fine Art America / Pixels / ArtistWebsites | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns the customer | You. They checkout on your domain. | The marketplace. You are a vendor inside their catalog. |
| Commission on the sale | 0%. You keep everything above print cost. | A cut of retail on the print, often on every order. |
| Payout | Stripe, at the time of sale. | Their schedule — often later, and you may never see the buyer’s email. |
| What Google ranks | Your domain, your sitemap, your artwork titles. | Their domain. Your name is a profile. |
| The “your website” product | Your layout, your domain, HTTPS, galleries you control. | A branded subdomain that still feeds their marketplace. |
| What it costs to start | 30 days free, no card. Then $21/month. Print setup is $50 once. | Cheap (or free) to list. Expensive when it sells. Artist Websites is a separate yearly fee on their brand. |
The subscription is not the whole math
FAA’s artist website is cheaper as a line item than $21/month. That is not the comparison that matters if you sell work. A commission on every print adds up faster than a hosting bill. ImpactFolios does not take that cut. You set retail above the print cost we show you. The spread is yours. Stripe’s card fee is the processor, not us.
If you never sell a print, you are paying for a website. If you do sell, 0% commission is the product.
Sell prints on your own website
Upload the high-res file. Pick giclée, canvas, metal, or poster. Set the retail price. When a collector buys, we print, pack, and ship. You do not inventory stock. You do not run to the post office. Details: how selling prints on your own site works.
Can I keep Fine Art America too?
Yes. Use FAA for the traffic they already have. Use ImpactFolios for the people who search your name, who you meet in person, and who you email. Point those people at a domain you own. That is the site that compounds.
Who this is for
Painters, photographers, and printmakers who want a real website — not another storefront inside someone else’s brand. If the work is already on Society6, Etsy, or Pixels, you can leave it there. The owned site is still the home base.
