PAINTER/TEACHER: PURPOSE
Upon meeting Shelli Robiner-Ardizzone in 1975, a renowned psychic said, "I see you surrounded by color, fabric, and texture".
For three decades, this creative spirit has made her mark as a textile colorist, entrepreneur, decorative painter, art instructor, and fine artist. Purposefully, passionately, pursuing all things paint, painterly, and paintable.
With color as my muse, I feel the joy of personal self- generated sweat as I fall in love with the technology of water color, pastels, acrylics, and oil paints. My love of making a variety of marks, gestural, visible, developed into an energetic painterly realistic style, working from observation in a time honored subject matter, still life, figurative and landscapes.
Materials and physical movements of my faux finishing work has crept into my easel orientation. It's NOT about embracing abstract painting, BUT for the fascination with manipulating the media itself. Intuitively, I began using my hands as I would, rags, brushes, sponges, spatula, pressing into, building up, and softening. Instinctive applications are blobbed, scraped, incised, smushed, dripped, and blotted. Inventive marks are used often as a first layer UNDER my pastels, acrylics, and oils. Realistic subject matter is rendered in traditional methods of application.
Traditional fine arts and decorative painting, once separate, become beloved offspring to the same parent – ME. This fusion and synergy has been an ongoing patchwork progression, demanding my mid- wivery and attentive nurturing, as it has finally emerged, full blown into my mind. Traversing a lifetime of devouring and honing of my skills, the germination and fusion of my heretofore, artistic split personality is the nexus and inspiration for future work. Please stay tuned.
