Parson's Challenge/AAS Home Exam For my Parsons Challenge, I’ve chosen to study the unflappable nature of reflection itself through the mirror. More often than not, a reflection occurs in this particular conduit. Although of course one can catch a glimpse of himself every now and then in a shiny store window or an unwavering puddle of water, it is with the mirror that we most willingly associate the reflection of the self. It is an object taken for granted, gone many centuries holding little appreciation. We never take the time to think about how much a simple object such as a mirror has affected our growth and identification of ourselves. Who would we be today if we never once saw our reflections? Would we have a harder time developing the connection with the ego and the ideals of self-consciousness? In this challenge, I am going to explore the meaning of the mirror and it’s ties to the philosophical reflection of ourselves. |
