From Our Perspectives: A National Women's Art Exhibition
The Womencenter's national annual women's juried art show, From Our Perspectives: A National Women's Art Exhibition, will be held September 27 - October 26, 2012 in the Smith Theatre Gallery at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus. To view and print the 2012 entry brochure, please click here. To submit your entries for the 2012 Art Exhibit, please click here. Entries are currently being accepted. Gilda Snowden, our 2010 juror, had this to say about the show: It has been my pleasure to be the juror of this very important national exhibition, and see the works of so many talented women from around the country. By experimenting with the physical properties of their chosen media, these artists have brought to the fore dynamic representations of style, color, composition and innuendo. By taking chances with these materials and marrying them to compelling narratives, they have created works that are concretely tangible, indicative of soaring imaginations, and in many cases have the quality of being wonderfully mysterious. I only wish I could have chosen even more! From Our Perspective is open to all women artists nationwide. Up to three recent original works in all media, excluding video and performance, are eligible for jurying. There are purchase and cash awards. For more information on From Our Perspective, or to be placed on our mailing list, call (248) 522-3642 or email womenart@oaklandcc.edu [0 Comments] [Read & Post Comments] thursday, may 03, 2012

Art and the Garden
Art and the Garden
Artcenter Traverse City and the Botanical Garden Society of Northwest Michigan invite artists to celebrate art in the unique setting and context of the community educational garden in Traverse City, Michigan. The theme for the show is a liberal interpretation of art and the garden. Art and the Garden is almost without boundaries. An artist can present art based on generic garden themes or those specific to the site of the new botanic garden on the property of the old State Hospital in Traverse City, now part of the Historic Barns Park project. Capture the essence of “garden” as we honor and appreciate life. Be inspired by the concepts, species, colors, designs, patterns, sounds, and smells of the garden. Feel free to present images based on flora, landscape, garden creatures, garden features, equipment, or architecture. Artists will use this opportunity to “get their hands in the dirt” and present their winning entry.
